Don't worry folks...Mr. Mayor has not completely let me down. I really had high hopes for this meeting today. I also know enough of you are so angry at him and at council and would like me to say...welll...what everyone else says. But everyone deserves a chance right? Just one chance.
I received a call today saying the Mayor couldn't make it to my farm. The horses were very sad and I had to throw out all those cookies I baked. Hmmm.
His secretary asked that I meet with him on Tuesday at 9:30, at HIS OFFICE (he insisted). Do we not like stepping out of our comfort zone of power into the vulnerable world of REAL?
Were the SQ too busy today to ensure that I wouldn't do something crazy...like...draw all over him? Remember the whole pen is mightier than the sword thing... I really DO believe that.
So no worries Mr. Mayor. I am happy to meet you in your office on Tuesday. I still hope you'll join us here to see what we're all about soon though.
Like I said...I have a juicy image changing proposal to make you. It's an offer YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO REFUSE. As many who know me will attest...I can be very convincing. :-)
Have a peaceful weekend all.

The Law of the Garbage Truck
I think this says it all...
Law of the Garbage Truck
One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport.
We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us.
My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded just missing the other car by inches!
The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us.
My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy.
And I mean, he was really friendly.
So I asked, 'Why did you just do that?
This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!'
This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call,
'The Law of the Garbage Truck.'
He explained that many people are like garbage trucks.
They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and
full of disappointment.
As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes
they'll dump it on you.
Don't take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on.
Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.
The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day.
Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so...Love the
people who treat you right.
Pray for the ones who don't.
Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!
Have a blessed, garbage-free day!

City Council Meeting December 2 NEWS
Good day Mr. Mayor, citizens of St. Lazare, Mr. City Inspector and my crazy neighbour.
I attended this evening's council meeting with several friends and family members. It ended up being very interesting. I would say almost to the point where I will stand down...until further notice.
The beginning of the meeting was brutal. Where did you find that guy that reads the notices? Did you hire him on purpose because you will guarantee yourselves a quiet meeting every month since he only speaks in the key of Dm ALL THE TIME. It felt like chinese water torture. You should find some sexy half clad man who reads in a deep sensual voice...then all the women will attend and become interested in their city, and their husbands will also attend to ensure the sanctity of their marriages.
The second half of the meeting was an explosion of fun. Opinions regarding hunting laws (so did I get it right...? we CAN hunt in the municipality but only 300m from a residential property? Um ok...well the way development is happening in the region there will be no physical way to hunt :)
I am a tree hugging hippie as you now know having met me. BUT don't try and stop ALL the hunting. It would be cruel. We have destroyed habitat to such a large extent that if we don't cull the herds, deer will simply die of malnutrition, dehydration and simple lack of physical living space in a very short time. There has to be a grey area on this.
Now in regards to my previous evaluation of Mr. Mayor Carzoli...I will temporarily withdraw my accusations in lieu of making up my own mind about him not based on the kazillions of other people's opinions I have had. My apologies. I have invited him for tea...so I can make my evaluation, and he can make his. So far, so good. This blog will cease and desist from any further defamation of character. But be good! The pen IS mightier than the sword.
Speaking of the sword...did you guys really invite the SQ for me? I'm flattered! My father would be proud. He was abit of a hippie as well. :) Thanks. You shouldn't have.
I was very impressed with Mr. Levy. He is on his game. He is the only one who I saw a trying to listen to and represent his constituents.
As I said at tonight's meeting...your personal opinions simply do not matter. Once you are elected to any official position, your mouth should only open if and when your constituents deems it so. You can argue with them, try and convince them if you feel it is in the best interest of the populace...but you cannot dismiss them.
Too many laws, by-laws, tabled laws, committees, organizations, mandates...it has to stop! Look UP from your life for a few moments, and really truly reflect on why you wanted to become public servants. You did it originally because you wanted to help people, be a part of something, create an excellent community.
Is this still your intention? Or have you lost yourselves under POUNDS of uselss paper.
It is NOT in a governments's best interest to become so imbued in legistlative redundancies, that the community suffers. This WILL result in the loss of your positions.
So I challenge you tonight Councillors of St. Lazare; decide here and now to become ADVOCATES for your consituency. Become activists. Become heros.
It's so important. You know...this isn't just ANY town. THIS is St. Lazare.
More to come. I hope I'm making my best cup of tea on friday.
Peace out.

NOTE TO THE CITY: WHAT I DO ON MY LAND IS NONE OF YOUR GODDAMNED BUSINESS
It's amazing to me that no matter who I speak to in this community, everyone seems to have a personal horror story relating to the incompetency of our town government.
Today it was stories of council threatening individuals at last year's meetings with arrest? For what...expressing their opinions? Oh, this is going to be good folks. Council hasn't met THIS red head yet. I suggest you get a cell nice and toasty for me, because I don't believe that threatening citizenry even for being vociferously opposed to your idiocy is acceptable. I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty. Hell, I probably have friends in most jails. We can hang out and catch up on old times. Would you like to meet them Mr. and Mrs. Councillor? I'm sure they'd love to meet you.
I was speaking to a good friend and fellow farmette owner who lost the battle last year and her equestrian property was reverted to residential zoning. Now, she has two beautiful refuge horses that she and her husband have adopted. They take splendid care of these animals, and have really gone a long way to becoming terrific horse-owners.
She asked me a question today that really stumped me. She asked if I thought she would be ALLOWED to build a second shelter in her second paddock for her horses. You see, since her property is "grandfatherred" for horses, she CAN keep them, but the question arises as to whether or not she can make improvments to the property for their care, since new structures are not included in the "agreement".
At first when she asked me this, I started talking out the possibilities with her. How long would a "permit" take, who could she talk to, etc... Then I realized I had fallen into the trap! (I bet you're already debating in your head eh? hehe)
Well get this novel thought...
It's none of ANYONE'S BUSINESS what we do on our properties! MORAL law says...as long as we don't...
1) Harm ourselves
2) Harm each other
3) Harm the environment
4) Endanger someone else's ability to have life, liberty or the pursuit of happiness
How in God's name could a horse shelter damage a neighbour? Get a grip. Stop FOLLOWING just because it's all you know how to do! Take off your glasses...WAKE UP.
Do NOT use the word BI-LAW with me when discussing this. I will only tell you that these "bi-laws" that are mandated to keep the "appearance" of the municipality in line with the rest of the community are pure and simply horse shit. Without purpose. Brutish snobbery. A waste of our time.
It's none of ANYONE'S BUSINESS what we do with our land or our homes.
I am not concerned with appearances...not yours and not mine.
This brings me to the question of why the city will not allow farm owners with adequate acreage to put up domes to ride in for the cold months. This is an "appearance" mandate. Horseshit. None of your business.
I won't even say that I'd like to see a "law" which allows us to do this on the books. Nope. Because that would be lending credence to the law that disallows.
I will choose not to recognize this law. Nor will I recognize any other law which infringes upon my personal freedom to do and be whatever the hell I want:
I will promise my neighbours the following...and no more:
1) I will not throw my dog shit in your pool
2) I will not throw loud obnoxious parties and light fireworks near your horses
3) I will not allow my children to be outside screaming until 3:00 a.m.
4) I will not yell at your children
5) I will not do construction projects when you and I should be enjoying quiet time in the evenings.
I will also promise them...
1) I will continue to teach children how to ride
2) I will continue to ride my horses to music (c'mon...live a little!)
3) I will play my guitar outside during the afternoons and sing...loudly (you're lucky I'm not charging for the free gig you peons)
4) I will build my arena. It will probably be a dome.
5) I will leave my door open for you and your families to visit the horses and our barn
If this does not work for you...move back to Dollard. Cause we're not moving.
Have a nice
Night Mare.
PS: To my crazy-ass neighbour who kept complaining about my manure which I move 5 times a year...
I moved it. Just for you.
Look out your kitchen window.
Merry Christmas.

St. Lazare trying to sneak re-zoning onto the agenda again!
OK everyone, it's time to pull up your bootstraps cause I can't do this alone!
Once again, I am told, the City council of St. lazare has been at it, discussing the possible de-zoning of equestrian lands. This is a situation which should have been put to rest last year, but I believe they think if they do it quickly and quietly, they won't get the raucous reception they had last year. They are wrong. Again.
Who wants the dezoning? Let us really look at this question.
1- Real Estate developers who would benefit from the highly profitable development of residential lands (they can't develop equestrian lands...but if they re-zone equestrian into residential...well then it's free money)
2- Residents from the city who want higher property values so they can make big bucks on the properties they already own.
3- City councillors who are directly implicated in land development and real estate in St. lazare (this is reprehensible and I believe we should call for their immediate resignation on the basis of conflict of interest. This would include Mayor Carzolli)
4- City tax coffers which make more money from residential taxes than equestrian land taxes
I could go on...but do we see a common thread ladies and gentlemen? Yup...it's the ALMIGHTY DOLLAR.
Please don't get me wrong. I like money as much as the next person. It buys my food, pays for my house, takes me on vacation, pays my vet and hay bills, allows me to help refuge horses and a dozen other nifty things.
But how much money do you all need? What are you willing to sacrifice for it?
It seems that City Council would want to put these rezoning by-laws into effect SOON because the elections are coming up within the year I would think (not sure about this) and they need to get their ducks lined up because once they are voted out (on the basis of being IDIOTS) then they will be happy and busy tearing down forests and devastating the environment so they can make yet another dollar.
Here's what we're going to do...
1) Meet us for coffee at Restaurant Bravo at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday December 2, 2008 to hear each other's ideas and thoughts on the current council.
2) Attend as a group the City Council meeting being held.
From there...we will develop a game plan.
Let it be known that
**CITY COUNCIL WILL NOT DICTATE THAT WHICH IS NOT THE WILL OF THE POPULACE OF ST. LAZARE
**INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS OF ST. LAZARE ADMINISTRATION WILL HAVE TO ANSWER TO A GROUP OF CONCERNED AND ORGANIZED CITIZENS
**I WILL BE CALLING FOR THE IMMEDIATE RESIGNATION OF ALL COUNCIL MEMBERS WHO ARE KNOWN TO HAVE A CONFLICT OF INTEREST IN REAL ESTATE DEALINGS

Simplifying My Life

Good news everyone. I have simplified my life.
I have removed people in it that were simply observing my life so they could chat amongst themselves because their own lives were obviously too uninteresting to talk about. I know I'm interesting. I'm just no longer public. Move on.
My life is happily is bereft of high needs people who are inauthentic and crass. Who are needy and clingy. It is filled with the warmest and most wonderful of friends.
My house is empty of children tonight. A much needed break.
My husband and I have had 3 full hours to spend with no chaos, disasters or drama.
My life today was without interference from ridiculous pseudo-governmental officials pathetically trying to do their half assed jobs.
I have stopped teaching the few children I was working with. This makes me very sad. I hope to rejoin them when the weather brings new hope of sunshine. For now, I need to take a break and get thigns in order. Please don't stop trying girls...you have come so far! Never give up!
Even with sadness...it was a good day. It was a day lacking in complications.
Thank you for your calls and letters. It means a great deal to me.
Here's hoping for another day just like today...peaceful and simple.

St. Lazare is run by crooks
It seems that in the city of St. Lazare if you are not in "cahoots" with the right people, or giving Mayor Carzoli a real estate kick-back, they can come down on you like a ton of bricks with no truly "just cause". They are taking extraodinary liberties with their supposed municipal by-laws to harass citizens and create chaos where none should exits.
I heard today of a single mother who is doing her best to make ends meet and guarantee a good life for her two daughters. Apparently, a "city inspector" was alerted to "whatever" and told her that she has to make one bedroom out of her daughter's two bedrooms, because of the size of her sceptic tank.
Can someone please explain to me what one has to do with the other? I can understand if she had 14 bathrooms in her house, but are her kids defecating in their rooms? If they are, then some other organization should be called, not the ineffectual arm of the St. Lazare municipal goverment.
It seems that the St. Lazare City Council is known by all the be crooked, slanted and cock-eyed. There are major real estate deals happening within the ranks, and if citizens want to have peace, they had better play the game. Why, may I ask, isn't anyone doing anything to stop them?
As a small farm owner, I have to say that I have never gotten a warm fuzzy feeling from either the municipality or my non-rural neighbours. You know who you are: you come from the suburbs or the city, wanting to move to "the country" but then when "country" isn't what you bargained for, you want to saintLazare into a new-suburban development with the almighty dollar always in sight. So many of you are complaining about the stupidest things! For example...the SMELL of horse manure. Hello...look at the map. If you can't accept the natural consequences of being in the country, I beg of you to move back to the city where you OBVIOUSLY belong. The farm owners laugh at your fickleness. Your complaints are not welcome here. Even the city inspectors are tired of you and think you are ridiculous. For once...we would agree.
So someone please tell me; who do I have to sleep with to make the city stop invading my life? Whose ass do I have to kiss to make the city stop evaluating arial photos of my property? Who is it that needs to be strongly reminded that this is an equestrian community, whose first concern is with the care and well being of the horses and not the valuation of our properties. I only know of one council member that understands this. The rest of you need to get to work and do some research.
Today I was threatened with potential sanctions if I took in abused, neglected and abandoned horses (which I do often!) because this was not commercial property and I was not allowed to "sell horses". Are you INSANE? I do not sell Refuge or any other kind of horse. I volunteer my time, energy and resources (as do MANY other GOOD St. Lazare residents) to make up for the fact that at NO LEVEL of government (Federal, Provincial or Municipal) do we see any kind of advocacy or support for these noble creatures. Of COURSE you wouldn't advocate for horses...there's no profit in it!
But not all of us in St. Lazare are so concerned with profit and money making. Some of us believe that there is more to life then lining our pockets and surrounding ourselves with ugly enormous grey cement houses. Some of us believe that at the end of the day, if you do it right, you will be happy.
Let me tell you that right now I am NOT happy.
When is it that we all became so apathetic that we have allowed our governments to run roughshod over our fundamental rights and freedoms? My freedom to LIFE LIBERTY AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS (the basis for democracy as illustrated by John Locke). But are we living in a democracy?
1) Is it democratic that an uninvited person can come to my house, within working hours, take pictures and take stock of what I do with my life at my home?
2) Is it democratic that the laws that govern a society can be enacted only when convenient or profitable for the law makers?
3) Is it democratic when the laws in question do not represent the intention of the citizens under their rule?
4) Is it democratic when a citizen cannot readily obtain a copy of these laws because there are "too many laws".
NO. It is not.
And so I conclude with this brief open letter to the councillors of St. Lazare (with the exception of those who follow democratic tenents) :
Dear Councillors of St. Lazare/Mayor Carzolli:
You are self serving, self seeking egomaniacal individuals who have fallen off the path of your original intentions. I am assuiming that once upon a time you intended to do something good with your life? Now you are game players who do not advocate for the citizens of this community. You should be ashamed of yourselves.
I beg of you...
Please change jobs. Please have the decency to step down and allow fresh views to come into play. Your interests in keeping the real estate values high so that you can make a bigger profit is very simply morally reprehensible. Especially for those of you who are working directly IN real estate while at the same time claiming to be representing your constituency. You have failed.
You have annoyed me and countless others. And now, I will come after you. I will fight to have you unseated. I will attend your city Council Meetings. I will inundate you with questions paperwork and bureaucracy in which you will have to JUSTIFY each and every regulation that disallows me as a private citizen from continuing my life as it was.
Your very lucky that I believe the pen IS mightier than the sword.
Oh and by the way, I am not alone.
Regards,
Night Mare

Regards,
Night Mare
